DESIGN 2 PROJECT 2 - VIRTUAL ARCHITECTURE

Too bad I don't have the snapshots of steps how I build my structure in Second Life but hopefully it will be ok.  Been a heck of a week this week trying to do both my project at Uni and labs at Unitec but I'll try to tell the story of my structure in Second Life to hopefully more meaningful.

The idea of waking up and seeing good views from your room or house or wherever you wakeup at, gives you a joyful feeling and makes you really wanna drag yourself out of where you slept and walk up to see more of the good views.  For example, waking up and seeing through your windows the big cruise ships arriving at the wharf, or lifeguards running around the ocean on the jetskis and so on.  Whenever you see these kind of activities when you wakeup, you really wanna be part of it and so forcing yourself to actually go there and see it for yourself.

Whereas if you wakeup and see old buildings and nothing interesting comes through your windows, you don't want to get out of bed.  You don't like to get out there if you wakeup and see boring and quiet views of old houses with no interesting activities to really push you to go and explore what's happening out there. Here's a look at some of the snapshots of structures build in Second Life:

1. Snapshot 1

This is a shot of old structure that gives the idea of boring and emptiness where no one wakeup and enjoy looking at it thereofore doesn't really gives anything but bad taste.

2. Snapshot 2

This photo shows  a contemporary modern structures which can be seen from outside. The beauty of the structure when you wakeup and see it really push you to get up and go out explore the amazing looking structure.  So the idea of good views, beauty and joy are the facts that decide the wakeup place to be build.

3. Snapshot 3 and 4

A further shot of the two structures

4. Snapshot 5,6 and 7

5. Contemporary Structure snapshots

Will be back to add more infos.

DRAWING MATRIX

As a result of my USB malfunction, I redraw my drawing matrix in Autocad on crit day and could not finish it in time but thought I should put it up here for tutor's reference.

Discussion with Ian regarding Second Life

Technology does not like me.................all my work for Virtual Architecture that I did and saved in my usb have disappeared and I still don't know why and how it happened and have to redo most of the stuff whole of this Thursday crit day. Anyway here's a bit of recap from last week up to crit day Thursday.

Discussion with Ian last Monday regarding my project in Second Life, I told him about making a structure to sleep and wakeup and get good views around the surrounding environment of the Structure.  This was the idea of my previous project of drawings animation and I wanna carry on with it.

Ian recommended to choose specific views that I really like which is the new apartments and other new buildings area by the Vector arena and also the view of the wharf and the ocean which is a very good one for me.  Ian was saying that it might be ok but try to figure out a way of how to make something in Second Life to reflect the views that I like and really have to be strong and provide more informations to readers.

PROJECT DISCUSSION WITH JUDY AND IAN.

List Any 10 Things that Architecture Is All About:

1. Architects need to be aware of their own intentionality

2. ALIVE - has character and changes

3. Personal - we all interpret it differently

4. ABOUT CHANGE - "Evolution"

5. Has an element of visual manipulation

6. Also other sensory information

7. Is reflective of our culture and others

8. Is human interventions

9. Is relational - a whole bunch of connections.

10. Defining or creative space.

3DMax Small Bowl Exercise

Our group had a good session on how to use 3DMax and how to draw and edit an object and we ended up drawing small bowl and shape around using different icons to shape around the little round thing and my little bowl looks like this:

DESIGN 2: PROJECT 1 PEER CRITS (Week 2-3)

After handing in Week 2-3 final projects, students were required to do PEER CRITS where each student's work crited by three other students and then later joined in with two other students to do crits of different 3 other student's works.  So that means I was supposed to do the crit of three students from Virtual/Reactive Architecture but unfortunately one student could not make it to the peer crit sessions.

1. Koh, Kyung Min got the idea of resting in an open space then waking up and look at a specific space thinking of going there.  But unfortunately as you get closer, suddenly a wall pop up and blocked you from getting there easily therefore have to find your way through series of walls to get to where you wanted to go. Like the use of blobs with color as walls and the sudden apperance when you start walking towards a certain place forcing yourself to wonder around to get to where you want to go. Walls were erected in like a maze that confuses you when you walk within it to get to where you need to go. Like the idea of waking up and you decide where to go and suddenly a wall appeared forcing you to find another way to get to where you want to go and his site was the island by the Te Tau Residence and Vector Arena.

2. Chen, Linbing had the idea of creating a place that relate yourself and the real world to the imaginary world in your dream.  Sometimes you wake up and experience strange things and never realise that you are still dreaming.  The only time you realise its the real world is when you look outside and see normal things then you know its the real world out there.  She used round glass materials for her wakeup place to relate the interior to the outside environment but the use of fur not really convey the idea of warm inside the place but the spiral entrance and spiralling starfish shape like stuff outside kind of interesting but not really convey the idea of scary but like they said, its a good effort and ideas about  the wakeup place.

3. Ratana, Louis was absent due sickness but hope to see some great work from this student.

WAKING UP (ANIMATED ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS)

Working with on A1 sheet of paper students will draw on only that sheet to discover their project. While drawing students will capture the process and produce an animation that reinforces and produce an animation that reinforces the ideas and concepts on the drawn sheet.

1. Students were given site area for a walkabout and pick a certain area they would like to build a place to wake up depending on their preference and feelings.

2. A specific area were given and students will pick their favourite area within that given area (photo below showing triangle of given site).

3. Next photo shows the area I picked for my place to wakeup which is the Arena Carpark building that stand between the GE building and the Qubac Apartments.

4. Next four sets of drawings are a blowups of my preferred site location and showing my place to wakeup on top of the Arena carpark at scale 1:1000 at A4.

5. Then a Floor plan 1:500 at A4 of the locations of the wakeup place with preferred location on top of the Arena Carpark building.

6. Next sets of drawings are stuff actually on site and were used for design the wakeup building.

Series of circles joining by thick white lines along the pathway beside the Arena Carpark.

Trees along the walkway beside the new apartments located together with Arena Carpark all decorated as shown by photos as their base.

7. With the stuff shown above came the idea of building a circular place for waking up from the series of circles and used the decorated base of the trees and plants for the exterior wall shown below in steps of how it progressed.

8. Isometric Elevated view of the wakeup place in steps of working.

This final view shows my idea of lightness with the use of shadows to represent the sun location.  This came from the idea that I like waking up in the morning and firstly see the sunlight therefore the location on the roof have full access to the sun all day.

9. Lastly is my idea of view as I like to wake up and see the ocean therefore  the perforated like wall giveway to view the waterfront when you wakeup and give you a sense of feeling special that you are on top of everyone else and seeing the ocean and its activities gives you a happiness and joyful feeling. You might also feel like a superstar living in the contemporary high rise apartments and on top of everything else that drives to really want to wakeup everyday and enjoy the space.

10. And this is the Animation video of the work being done for the place to WAKE UP.

Feel free to post comment thanks.
